Adelaide Cup Betting

The Group 1 Adelaide Cup run over 3200 metres is held at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide. Adelaide Cup Betting changed in 2006 when the Adelaide Cup was un on the second Monday in March. Adelaide Cup Betting has been available since 1864 when Falcon was the inaugural winner.

From 1884 to 1944 the Adelaide Cup was run over 13 furlongs (2600metres) before being changed to the Melbourne Cup Betting distance of 3200 metres or two miles.

Adelaide Thoroughbred Races

Adelaide Thoroughbred Races are held at three metropolitan tracks, Morphettville, Cheltenham and Victoria Park. The Adelaide Cup carnival is undoubtedly the highlight of the South Australian Racing calendar with some of the best horses, trainers and jockeys descending on Adelaide for the two week carnival held at Morphettville Racecourse.

The carnival has also changed it’s format recently with the carnival being referred to as the MAGIC MILLIONS ADELAIDE YEARLING SALE AND ADELAIDE CUP CARNIVAL with the major sponsor being Malaysian Airlines.

Although Adelaide attracts it’s fair share of interstate horses chasing the prizemoney on offer most of the top horses prefer to head north to Brisbane for their winter racing carnival.

Adelaide racing has seen some changes recently not only to the scheduling of it’s races but there is also talk of the Adelaide Jockey Club selling Cheltenham racecourse.
