Mr Feelgood Wins Inter Dominion Final

The Tim Butt trained and Anthony Butt driven former U.S pacer Mr Feelgood took out last night’s $1million Inter Dominion Final on the Gold Coast while the boom Kiwi Auckland Reactor went as well as my weekend on the punt…..first horse beaten.

Blacks A Fake went straight to the front as expected, I Am Sam lobbed outside the leader also as expected. Gavin Lang was in the sulky on Auckland Reactor and he drove it like it was the best horse in the race, and he may well be, I have a little theory about the racing on the Gold Coast during this Inter Dominion,  and if i’m right then that opening night of heats was where Auckland Reactor “lost” this final.

Last week, night 2, the majority of horses who put in “big runs” the previous week went worse on night two. Auckland Reactor had a soft run on opening night and put in his big run on night two and went poorly on night three.

Anyway back to the race,  Lang drove Auckland Reactor like it was a Ferrari and he went like an old Volksy.

Got to the deathseat early enough and simply failed to fire a shot.

Meanwhile, Blackie was cruising out in the lead running through the first quarter in 29.2 and then covering the second in 30 even as the three wide trail loomed up with Karloo Mick moving into second with Mr Feelgood getting the dream cart up into the race.

The third quarter was 28.5 with Blackie holding Karloo Mick only for Mr Feelgood to charge through along the sprint lane and claim victory after a 29.1 final quarter giving the winner a 1:56:6 mile rate.

So there you have it.

I’m not a fan of the “shortened” Inter Dominion. While Mr Feelgood is a “worthy winner” I don’t think every horse was given a chance to win which is what the three heats and a final format does. The best and more importantly, the toughest horse should be crowned Inter Dominion champ.

Karloo Mick is the best horse in Australia on his Inter Dominion runs. He leads the final and he can’t lose on that front runners track.

Final word on Blackie, great champ but sadly his best is now behind him.

Congrats to the Butt boys who won their first Inter Dominion Pacers series after winning the Inter Dominion for Trotters three times.
