The Tim Butt trained and Anthony Butt driven former U.S pacer Mr Feelgood took out last night’s $1million Inter Dominion Final on the Gold Coast while the boom Kiwi Auckland Reactor went as well as my weekend on the punt…..first horse beaten.
Blacks A Fake went straight to the front as expected, I Am Sam lobbed outside the leader also as expected. Gavin Lang was in the sulky on Auckland Reactor and he drove it like it was the best horse in the race, and he may well be, I have a little theory about the racing on the Gold Coast during this Inter Dominion, and if i’m right then that opening night of heats was where Auckland Reactor “lost” this final.
Last week, night 2, the majority of horses who put in “big runs” the previous week went worse on night two. Auckland Reactor had a soft run on opening night and put in his big run on night two and went poorly on night three.
Anyway back to the race, Lang drove Auckland Reactor like it was a Ferrari and he went like an old Volksy.
Got to the deathseat early enough and simply failed to fire a shot.
Meanwhile, Blackie was cruising out in the lead running through the first quarter in 29.2 and then covering the second in 30 even as the three wide trail loomed up with Karloo Mick moving into second with Mr Feelgood getting the dream cart up into the race.
The third quarter was 28.5 with Blackie holding Karloo Mick only for Mr Feelgood to charge through along the sprint lane and claim victory after a 29.1 final quarter giving the winner a 1:56:6 mile rate.
So there you have it.
I’m not a fan of the “shortened” Inter Dominion. While Mr Feelgood is a “worthy winner” I don’t think every horse was given a chance to win which is what the three heats and a final format does. The best and more importantly, the toughest horse should be crowned Inter Dominion champ.
Karloo Mick is the best horse in Australia on his Inter Dominion runs. He leads the final and he can’t lose on that front runners track.
Final word on Blackie, great champ but sadly his best is now behind him.
Congrats to the Butt boys who won their first Inter Dominion Pacers series after winning the Inter Dominion for Trotters three times.

The official Inter Dominion Barrier Draw has been completed and the reigning Intedom champion Blacks A Fake $3-00 second elect in revised Inter Dominion Betting markets has managed to get the coveted Gate 1.
Auckland Reactor has blown like a gale out to $2-90 from his odds on quote and will have to put in some sort of run here to win after drawing the outside of the second row.
How will the race unfold: Blackie is going to lead and I Am Sam is going to work to the deathseat and let the leader get away with whatever quarters he likes.
I can’t imagine the deathseat up for grabs here. That makes a midrace move suicidal.
Karloo Mick, Smoken Up, Mr Feelgood and Auckland Reactor is the three wide line. There is going to be some halfcarting here until Karloo Mick gets going.

More Joyous and Real Saga are equal favourites in the latest 2009 Golden Slipper Betting markets posted by leading Australian sports bookmaker Sportingbet after both dominated at Rosehill races yesterday.
Both ridden to effortless victories by Darren Beadman head the Golden Slipper Betting markets at 3-60 apiece while the Melbourne filly Rostova is the third elect at 8-00
Those two youngsters certainly grabbed their share of the racing headlines for the Sunday papers but the run of Typhoon Tracy was one to be remembered in the Coolmore Classic. How good was that, did everything wrong and still won convincingly. Only downside was that I didn’t have enough on it
still needed The Jackal to score in the lucky last to break even for the day. Yeah it was a bit of a prayer but he got the job done.

Dante’s Volonte is without question the new WA champ. I hadn’t seen this horse before today, and while I’m sure he didn’t beat much, he looked like one out of the box. He didn’t get out of second gear and demolished his rivals.
Hate to think how far he would have spaced them had Jarrod Noske given him one with the whip. Might be a bit hard to get a price but this one will continue to dominate the Perth racing headlines.

Kiwi Trainer Mark Purdon has copped a six week suspension for his drive on beaten Inter Dominion betting favourite Auckland Reactor at the Gold Coast Trots on Saturday night. For some reason, Purdon thought the suspension was “way too harsh” despite not giving his horse any possible chance of winning at the pohibative odds of $1-10.
Harness Racing Queensland stewards found Purdon guilty on a charge of failing to take all reasonable and permissable measures to obtain the best finishing position after his fast finishing but comprehencively well beaten second, behind Karloo Mick.
Tony Herlihy will take over driving duties should Purdon not appeal his suspension which was effective immediately.

Not interested in betting on either of them at those odds. I’m more than happy to be on Iron Hudge.
