2009 Melbourne Cup Formguide

1 VIEWED Bart Cummings barrier 9 - 58 kgs

The topweight is probably going to jump the race favourite as once a year mum and dad punters bet on the Cups King chalking up a 13th Melbourne Cup succer.  Last year’s winner and has no doubt improved with a last to first victory in the Caulfield Cup and then hit the line well on Saturday in the Mackinnon Stakes. I’m sure he will be looming up in the straight and is going to be hard to beat but I can’t have him at the price or the weight.

2 C’EST LA GUERRE John Sadler 7 55.5

Capable of scoring an upset win and will have some of mine weighing him down on Tuesday.  Was unlucky in last year’s race when he stormed home for third. Only horse out of three stable stars to make the final Melbourne Cup field of 24.  How ironic if he should score.

3 FIUMICINO Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes 24 55.5

This horse needs rain and a month of it. Should be running in the Cup Day hurdle on a provincial track somewhere other than Flemington. Don’t even waste your time betting on this with monopoly money.

4 MASTER O’REILLY Danny O’Brien 16 55

Nice run in the Mackinnon. Has had his chance to win the Melbourne Cup and simply wasn’t good enough. Hard to see him improving enough this year. An eachway chance for a place at best.

5 MOURILYAN Herman Brown 14 54.5

No. I’m just putting a line through all the imports this year. If they can win, then good luck to the connections but as far as a betting proposition goes, i’d suggest you just put a line through them in 2009 Melbourne Cup betting.

6 ROMAN EMPEROR Bart Cummings 15 54

I think this bloke is the one that can give Bart his 13th Melbourne Cup win. He kept fighting all the way to the line in the Caulfield Cup and was simply beaten by the one horse that eenjoyed all the favours.

7 ISTA KAREEM Colin Little 23 53.5

Another hurdler.8 CRIME SCENE Saeed Bin Suroor 11 53

No Interest in overseas horses.

9 MUNSEF Ian Williams 5 53

No Interest in overseas horses.

10 ZAVITE Anthony Cummings 3 53

No. Should be schooling over hurdles. Can play a part in setting a solid tempo in the lead but that’s it. Again, not with monopoly money.

11 ALCOPOP Jake Stephens 12 52.5

If this horse can stay then they wont see which way he goes when the handbrake is released. Has been super impressive at his last couple and if he is a genuine stayer then at the weights, he just wins.  Have to back this bloke, on the way up, braine dhis rivals last start…..just cross the fingers that he can stay.

12 HARRIS TWEED Murray & Bjorn Baker 20 52.5

Hasn’t shown up this prep. Can’t have it.

13 KIBBUTZ Jarrod McLean 8 52.5

The one time VRC Derby winner loomed up at Moonee Valley last week but didn’t go on with it. That was his first glimpse of anything that resembles form since he won the Derby and I can’t have it.

14 NEWPORT Paul Perry 18 52.5

I backed this bloke in last year’s Cup and he was out of his depth. Not with monopoly money in 2009 Melbourne Cup betting.

15 WARRINGAH Chris Waller 17 52.5

No Interest in overseas horses.

16 GALLIONS REACH Richard Yuill 6 52

Kiwi invader that ran unplaced in the Bendigo Cup. What is he doing here?

17 SPIN AROUND Steven Cooper 4 52

Shouldn’t be in the field.

18 BASALTICO Luca Cumani 10 51.5

No Interest in overseas horses.

19 CAPECOVER Alexander R Fieldes 19 51.5

Another Kiwi that ran unplaced in the Bendigo Cup last week. Again, shouldn;t be in the field.

20 DAFFODIL Kevin Gray 21 51.5

Nice run in the Caulfield Cup.  Has definite claims of winning the Melbourne Cup for the Kiwis. Wouldn’t be the worse idea you ever had to bet on this mare.

21 SHOCKING Mark Kavanagh 22 51

The Mark Kavanagh stable hasn’t enjoyed the best of luck and their Melbourne Cup chances with this bloke could have gone out the window at the barrier draw. Will be having a little wager on Saturday’s impressive Lexus winner to cover my exepnses for the day. Corey Brown is going to have to weave some magic from the wide draw, if he can, then he is a genuine live chance.

22 ALLEZ WONDER Bart Cummings 13 50.5

People seemed to jump off this mare after her “flop” in the Caulfield Cup. I don’t think she backed up and I’ll be having a couple dollars on her to score an upset win at the odds. She has no weight, has had time to recover from her two runs in a week and I dare say her preparation will be timed to the minute.

23 CHANGINGOFTHEGUARD David Hayes 1 50.5

No Interest in overseas horses.

24 LEICA DING Darren Weir 2 50.5

This is the one smokey for punters. I backed the Darren Weir trained She’s Archie when she ran second to Makybe Diva in the first of her three Cups so I’ll be having something on Leica Ding. The Geelong form has been standing up and she won the Geelong Cup so you can do worse than place your Melbourne Cup bet on this mare.
