LA Lakers take 3-1 series lead over Spurs

May 28, 2008

The LA Lakers have one foot in the NBA Championship series after taking a 3-1 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs with a 93-91 win on the road.  The win was not without its moment of mahem after the Lakers almost blew a 7 point lead at the death thanks to some ubelievably stupid play by Kobe Bryant.

Speaking on television afterwards, Kobe basically said that taking a tough layup with 15 seconds on the shot clock and 35 seconds on the game clock, with his team enjoying a 4 point lead, was the right play. Yeah right, dickhead.

He may be a great player, the best in basketball, but he made a schoolboy error that almost cost his team big time. The Spurs ran the ball down the floor for a quick 2 pointer and all of a sudden it was game on with the Lakers leading by 2 points and plenty of time on the clock.

Fisher missed everything and the ball was rebounded by the lakers who still had to take a quick shot with time about to expire, a miss by Kobe and the Spurs had a shot at forcing overtime at the very least if not to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, only for a dubious no call, seeing the Lakers home.

The Spurs have every right to cry about the no call, however, they did enjoy their share of home town decisions, going to the charity strike 26 times for 24 points, and who can defend Duncan’s walk to the basket.

Once again, the no show of Manu Ginobili was the deciding factor as it was in games 1 and 2 at the Staples Center. Ginobili rolled up for Game 3 and, not surprisingly, the Spurs cruised to a 19 point win.

No Ginobili no Spurs.
